Introductions

You may be very keen to contact someone who is not part of your network. If that person is connected to someone you know, you can ask for them to introduce you. However, just because a person is a first-level contact with someone, it doesn’t mean that they know them well, so if they decline to help, it’s probably not down to anything you have done.

When asking for an introduction, create a short email that they can then send on to the person you want to connect with. Write it as if it is from them, so that the changes they need to make are minimal. Draw out your achievements and include details to make somebody feel compelled to connect to you.

You can also use InMail. If you have opted for the premium (paid) service you can send messages to anyone, whether you are connected or not.
